Hey Bubs, what makes that water that special green? It's a by product of the dissolved salts and rock flour (fine ground rock) generated by the erosive force of the Niagara River itself- 50,000 years from now this will all be gone Boca. And honey, here's another chance to go over it in a barrel.
Yes those stories about going over the falls in a barrel are true. Sadly an international student from Japan fell over the day before we arrived. She stepped over the safety rail to take that special photo and fell into the Niagara River and seconds later swept over the Horseshoe Falls. Oddly, the next day search turned up a man and not her? Depending upon whose statistics you read either 12 million or 28 million tourists visit the falls every year and it felt like most of them were here the day we visited.
Bubba enjoyed some of the tourist fashion... I SO WANTED TO ASK THIS GUY WHERE HE BOUGHT HIS SHIRT. I know just the guy to get one for....What about being on vacation brings out the tacky tourist in us? This spot was a mecca for tacky tourist fashion. It must be a warm environment that brings out the fashionista in us. Hey, we live in Florida-most everybody dresses like this! I think the Birkenstock and white socks originated in Europe and now the Americans have taken it on as their very own. When on "vacation" do you dress for fashion or comfort? As our road trip goes on we get less "picky"-for example, black underwear under white pants, stains become invisible and wrinkles de rigor. And Alexandra plead-MOM DON'T BUY ANY MORE HOODIES FROM EVERY PLACE YOU VISIT! I HAVE ENOUGH TO LAST ME A LIFETIME. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Do you see me now? Bubba and Boca on the boat Maid of the Mist ride right up to the base for some wet and wild. This fairly young river is only 12,000 years old- a microsecond in geological time. It is the second largest falls on the globe next to Victoria Falls in southern Africa. And did you know 1/5 of all the fresh water in the world lies in the four upper Great Lakes (Michigan, Huron, Superior and Erie)? All the outflow empties into the Niagara River and eventually cascades over the falls. Much of the water today is fed through underground channels and pipes to nearby hydro-electric power stations. Class dismissed.
