DAY 27 AUGUST 2 ENTERTAINING CHICAGO AND RUDIE RUDIE RUDIE

In spite of it being hot as hell, Chicago is still a great place to have some fun.  Situated at the southwest edge of the vast Lake Michigan, the city claims 29 miles of lake front.  Despite burning to the ground in 1871 and witnessing terrible social unrest, the city soon rebuilt itself to emerge as the financial capital of the Midwest.  Today, this third largest city in the US is world famous for its innovative architecture, significant as the national transportation hub, its vibrant cultural and educational institutions (my pocket book shows it) and for it's colorful and wacky political history.  The fantastic Millennium Park out Alex's front door is a walkers dream...and Lulu's too!  Have you visited?

Working with a blank slate post fire, the architects rose to the challenge of reshaping a devastated city.  It was in Chicago that the worlds first skyscraper was built, and here that Frank Lloyd Wright developed his Prairie School of Architecture.  The Chicago School, developed here, led to an engineering and aesthetic revolution with commercial skyscrapers.  And don't ya know- the Chicago firm of Sim and Gill were just awarded the contract to design a new skyscraper in Saudi Arabia to be the world's first kilometer-tall building called the Kingdom tower with a budget of $12 million.  The building will be at least 563 feet taller than the world's current tallest building- the Burj Khalifa in Dubai (2,717 feet tall)- can't wait to see it in Feb!   Congrats Chicago talented architects.  And what a view from the water!

 MEET CHA AT MARIOS!

Rudie and I go back many years (1979)- when I worked at St. Joe's and he was our med malpractice lawyer.   I do my best not to hold his being a lawyer against him.  So over to Mario's we go... and of course Rudie knows Mario (oops there's one of those Under Armour shirts I yelped at Bubba not to wear in the city- sorry about that Bubs).   We met Rudie's lady last winter when they stopped by for an overnighter at the Collins Casa on the way to some cruise fun leaving out of Ft. Lauderdale.  Talk about upbeat and fun- that's Patty.  And another gal pal-Diane - lives in the high rise over the top of Mario's also stopped by to say hi on her way to some beach volley ball fun.  And you thought they only did that beach thing in southern cali. My dear Pal Rudie is still enamored by the President and can't understand why Boca being so smart just doesn't get it.  So much for that great minds think alike thing.  And remember Rudie,  those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others.

Boca so enjoyed presenting Rudie with a print for his office....
