DAY 58 SEPT 3 LIFE AFTER COLLEGE could be an EVERETT RUESS JOURNEY

LIFE AFTER COLLEGE
Thank you Mathew for driving the Q (our car) back to the city for us.  Another lunch at the Park Cafe and catching up on his post college career was needed.  Yup, going from college to career these days can be tricky in this economy.  But was it ever "easy"?  Declaring your dream, building a support network, figuring out your vision and purpose, bulldozing those barriers, grinding it out, making that dream a reality and getting that first paycheck- yeah that's the ticket.  Mathew is Lady Jane's son who has landed himself a job in the world of Chicago Trading.  Way to go Mathew.  We look forward to enjoying all your successes as you grow into your career.  My Alexandra is going through the deciding what you want to do, getting those resumes and cover letters flowing and MAKE THOSE CONTACTS!  And don't forget about the follow up!  Yes, her mother is definitely a helicopter Mom.  Poor Alex.  Bubs tries to run interference as it has been said that Boca can be a bit overwhelming.   Happy, passionate, fulfilling and growth filled is all I want for my Alex.  In spite of the economy, there are many great jobs out there graduates.  What separates the men from the boys or the broads from the babes is attitude, focus and time on task.  And it wouldn't hurt to create a professional development strategy as you work on getting that first job.  What is your soul on fire passion?  Please don't settle.  There is absolutely no reason what so ever to SETTLE.  This is the time of your life to BE FREE TO CHOOSE- go for it.  As they say "skills are cheap, passion is priceless".

And bless those of you with that college debt.  This can be serious moola today.  Make sure you have structured the best deal out there and get that plan together to pay it off.  I find these type of tasks more manageable when I have it all spelled out in one of my notebooks, rather than looming over my head every day.  And hey, a few nights of Ramen noodles never hurt anybody.  Look how it effected the Chinese!  Good luck Grads of 2011.

THE ARIZONA CONTINGENCY
Family from Arizona arrived for the wedding.  A libation and some catching up was in order.  Nancy's beau Troy-a hero of mine- had quite an adventurous trip this year.  He followed the trail of EVERETT RUESS.   Everett Ruess was a young artist, poet and writer who explored the High Sierras, California Coast and the deserts of the American Southwest- invariably alone.  His fate while traveling through a remote area of Utah has been a mystery for many years.  There's even an Everett Ruess "club" of sorts- quite a cult "hero".  Troy and his buddy went off to see if they could solve the mystery of Everett Ruess.  Spending a few months walking the walk. Talk about an adventure.  Troy, did you ever figure out what happened to ER?  AND I'M STILL WAITING FOR YOUR BOOK!

Anybody up for the Escalante Canyons Art Festival-Everett Ruess Days scheduled for September 23-24?  In the heart of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (between Bryce Canyon and Capital Reef National Parks- remember my North to Alaska Blog), this area is one of the most majestic and mystical we've had the privilege to visit.  The Everett Ruess Chautaqua is scheduled for the morning of Sept 24 which should include lively conversations about the mysteries associated with ER and his disappearance in this canyon area in the 1930's.  Troy and Nancy are you going?

"I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN UNSATISFIED WITH LIFE AS MOST PEOPLE LIVE IT.  ALWAYS I WANT TO LIVE MORE INTENSELY AND RICHLY.  WHY CONCEAL ONE'S TRUE LONGINGS AND LOVES, WHEN BY SPEAKING OF THEM ONE MIGHT FIND SOMEONE TO UNDERSTAND THEM ,AND  BY ACTING ON THEM ONE MIGHT DISCOVER ONESELF?"
