Lolla pa what? And where did that name come from? Some say from a Three Stooges movie. The Lolla is celebrating it's 20th anniversary this year. What once started as a farewell show for alternative rockers Jane's Addiction, the weekend fest has since exploded. In it's 7th year in Chicago- this music extravaganza- occupying 115 acres in Grant Park and packing in 270,000 fans watching 30 bands over the next 3 days. Chicago is a world-class city when it comes to music and the area plays hosts to dozens of music festivals. So much music, so many choices Bub. And lucky you-sprawl and splendor right out the front door. Bubba scanned the band list and didn't recognize a one....Titus Anddronicus, Flogging Molly, The Chain Gang of 1974, Coldplay, Portugal. The Man, Foo Fighters (I have heard of them), The Vaccines...huh? My personal favorite band name The Mountain Goats. Are we that far out of touch with contemp music??? $90 for a one day ticket. We watched Columbus Drive transform into a wall of portable toilets. I'm in....what say you Bubs?
EVENING FUN WITH DARCY AND KEVIN
With the mob scene of Lolla going on - tough to catch a cab. And only flagged one down because we offered a "physically challenged" lady with a cane to share the cab. The cab driver was not keen on the two fares making one ride and going in opposite directions. Sorry for being "tardy for the party" Kevin and Darcy. RL's is one of our favorite Chicago eateries. As a matter of fact Darcy worked for RL for several years. Her recent gig was with Oprah, managing the retail end of the business. Darcy's fabulous talent matches her terrific personality so we are all wondering what's next in her professional life. Rumour has it, many offers are in the wings. Bubba's very depressed state due to the market disaster was only soothed by a Jack Daniels...the 500 pt drop in the market has made Bubba very very testy all week. Like many, he fears the Street is headed for another recession. Pessimism doesn't begin to describe him.Check out the clips from Darcy's big party:
